Compassionate officers escort inmate to see his dying mother for one final time

Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office from Santa Rosa, California, believes that everyone deserves compassion.

And so, the officers decided to grant one inmate’s request to say a final goodbye to his mother who was on her deathbed in a hospital.

The cops of the Transportation Unit who were given the special task to escort the inmate to the hospital where his mother was staying took pride and honor in their role.

The officers, as well as the inmate, posed together for a memorable photo at the hospital. Not only did this bring a huge smile on the inmate’s face but it also provided his mother with contentment and joy.

In a beautiful and touching moment, the inmate embraced his mom and said his final goodbye.

Hours later, the Sheriff’s Department shared the touching reunion on Facebook, captioning it:

“This morning our Transportation Unit got to share in something very special. We were honored to escort this inmate to visit his mother who is in hospice care. It was a beautiful, special moment. One we won’t soon forget.

“His family sent us these pics we took with them and wanted us to share with everyone. What a great experience… Really touching… #compassionforall”

Soon enough, the touching reunion and the kind gesture of the officers went viral with thousands of people applauding the cops for their compassionate approach.

“Oh my goodness, I am sad to hear that she is in hospice care, and so glad you could bring her son in to see her. Peace to them both,” one person wrote.

“Having had a parent in hospice care, this is one of the most compassionate things you could do for son and mother. Good job SCSO,” one person said.

In response to all of the compliments, the Sheriff’s Department replied: “Compassion is what it’s about. Glad we could help!! Our deputies were very touched. And shout out to the judge who let it happen.”
